Situated
south of the North Carolina line, and not too far from Charlotte,
the Rock Hill Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex opened in
1974. A large Motor Lodge built in the mansard style, it featured
135 guest rooms.
After
its Restaurant was converted into a Denny's, the complex suffered
a layer of stucco and a new facade for the lobby & Restaurant.
However even with the new front, parts of the original, but
no longer Orange Mansard remained visible. The Motor Lodge
had remained a well maintained Howard Johnson until almost
the end of the 20th century. |
