Arlington, Texas -- 2001 E. Copeland Rd

Opened in 1965, Arlington was a unique Motor Lodge. Situated along the Dallas-Ft. Worth Turnpike, which was built as a limited access toll road, the Motor Lodge featured a double canopied Gate Lodge. Having an entrance on two sides allowed turnpike travelers access to the Motor Lodge without exiting the toll highway, and local patrons got accessibility too!

Opened in 1957, the turnpike featured a Howard Johnson's Restaurant Service Plaza several years before the Motor Lodge was built.

Although greatly altered by 2002, the unique double entry Gate Lodge was still recognizable to the trained eye.

On two floors of one side of the former Motor Lodge, modifications eliminated sliders and balconies when some of the rooms were enlarged.
