Owned by the franchise holding firm, Hillcrest Foods, Inc, this Dallas area Howard Johnson's Restaurant located across from Southern Methodist University was the first Howard Johnson's Restaurant in the state of Texas. Variations of its address were published in Howard Johnson's directories for the few short years that it was open.

Principals in the Franchise-holding firm were Col. Earle D. Bottom, president; Col. Harry E. Stewart, vice-president; Waldo E. Stewart, executive-president and general manager, and Peter P. Stewart who was the treasurer. The ground-breaking Texas first Restaurant remained open for less than five years.

 
 
 

 
 
The new Howard Johnson restaurant building is of masonry construction, 40 by 75 feet. It is air-conditioned, and interior decorations include use of cool tones of color set off by Sky-Glo lighting.
 
 
Standout features of the unit include as Ecoustone ceiling with a clover leaf pattern, ceiling-flush Sky-Glo fluorescent lighting fixtures and terrazzo floors.
