 White River Junction, Vermont

This is the original WRJ location built in the mid-1940s and likely was in operation shortly after WW II. Located along Route 5, it served as a "Landmark for Hungry Americans" until its replacement was built just across the parking lot along with a Motor Lodge.

In these haunting 1997 photos the building serves as a sad reminder of how things were--must have been. Alas, since these images were captured through the lens of Nate Beyea, and after years of disuse and neglect, its roof caved in collapsing much of the building, rendering this once mini-grand Howard Johnson's not much more that a heaping pile of unrecognizable rubble ready to be hauled off...
