Most
likely opened in the 1953, the stand-alone Colonial Heights
Restaurant was located on U.S. 1, 301 adjacent to the Pickwick
Lodge Motor Court. The location was a typical first generation
Nims-type, but only remained in business until 1961.
Robby Deluis discovered that the building was vacant in
1961 and had become an office of the Pioneer Federal Savings
and Loan Assn. by 1965. He speculated that after the Richmond-Pertersburg
Turnpike opened in the late 1950s much of the traffic
diverted to the modern limited access tollway cutting the
HoJo's off from its traveling patrons. Remarkably the building
was still extant at the end of 2005, and had been converted
into a cash advance business.
