Only
a Howard Johnson's Restaurant for about three years, this location
served its last HJ fried clams way back in 1961.Even as a Chinese
Buffet, the building remained highly recognizable (the Trapezoid
sign helps too!). I suspect that when it gave up the Howard Johnson
name in 1961, its owners continued to peddle family food similar
to HJ fare. Playing on the building's heritage, it was little altered
except that HoJo-ish elements were added! Especially notice all
of the HoJo-looking stone facadeism--it is NOT Howard Johnson stone
and in fact does not match the stone that is to the right of the
Restaurant's entryway. |
