Although the Troutville Restaurant had been considerably modified, it remained recognizable well into the 2000s. Howard Johnson directories indicate that it housed a Western Sizzlin from 1994 until at least 1998!

Above and Below: Between Phil's visits to the site, the restaurant went from one ethnic flavor to another. Unfortunately its conversion into a Mexican eatery further altered the former HoJo's.

Lasting longer than three decades as a Howard Johnson's, the Motor Lodge had lost its brand by the end of the 1990s. Subsequently it became an Econo Lodge, which is apparently better maintained than most. The Gate Lodge, though altered, remained un-squared off and still had its cantilevered canopy as recently as the middle 2000s.

Below: Amazingly, original circa 1960s Patio/Balcony chairs with brown webbing were still being used. Note that the guest buildings received a mansard-like facade by the middle 2000s (pictured on the first page).
