Kenosha, Wisconsin -- 12121 75th St

Built during peak expansion years for the Howard Johnson Company, Kenosha opened in May of 1965. The Motor Lodge remained a Howard Johnson's for nearly thirty years. It was converted into a Days Inn during the 1990s and unfortunately lost its Gate Lodge along the way.

Happily the HoJo's Restaurant building survived and was operated as a Denny's prior to becoming Jennifer's Restaurant & Pancake House.

Note the flood lights on the roofs of the guest buildings. Their placement was an original feature and were designed to bring attention to the Motor Lodge by illuminating the bright white roofs of the guest buildings. Most of the original fixtures were replaced with new units that were aimed to shine on the parking areas.

Also note that Kenosha's guest buildings had maintained their original exterior appearance including railings, slider, balconies/patios, and sliders--nothing had even been stuccoed!
