Madison-Northeast was a classic Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex. When it opened in 1963, it was the first such facility in Wisconsin. During the 1980s, the signature A-Frame Gate Lodge was demolished and replaced by a non-standard high rise section.

The Motor Lodge and Restaurant continued to operate as a Howard Johnson complex well into the 1990s. Eventually it was converted into a Comfort Inn sans the HoJo's Restaurant.

Curiously a chimney is seen in the photos above and below. It is situated in an area where the original Nims-type Restaurant had been--perhaps it is a remnant of the original building!

Lasting into the FAI era, Madison-Northeast's HoJo's Restaurant remained in business until 1993.
