A "Mansard Manor," the East Lyme complex with its towering highway sign opened in 1973. Its Motor Lodge featured 93 guest rooms on 3 floors as well as an all weather heated indoor swimming pool.

Lasting as a Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge until the end of 1993, the property like Darien and Mystic became a part of the Darien Hospitality Group. By the early 2000s the former Howard Johnson's had become a beaconless Days Inn.
