New Britain lasted as a Howard Johnson's only until 1979. Thereafter it operated as a Ramada Inn and then as a Days Inn. Having lost its balconies and gaining gobs of stucco in its botched 2003 makeover, the former HoJo's became an unsightly site. 2006 Internet listings indicated that the onetime high-rise Motor Lodge attempted to be a Holiday Inn, but that switch never occurred. In addition the former HJ might been called the Central Inn & Conference Center during some point of its existance.

By 2007 New Britain had become a Blackstone branded LaQuinta and its Restaurant a Famous Dave's.


Left: No its not supposed to be a photo of a port-a-pottie! Hidden behind the excess of stucco and mansards, a bit of the Restaurant's original roofline complete with porcelain enamel tiles peeks out on the side (see lower photos too).
