New
Britain lasted as a Howard Johnson's only until 1979. Thereafter
it operated as a Ramada Inn and then as a Days Inn. Having
lost its balconies and gaining gobs of stucco in its botched
2003 makeover, the former HoJo's became an unsightly site.
2006 Internet listings indicated that the onetime high-rise
Motor Lodge attempted to be a Holiday Inn, but that switch
never occurred. In addition the former HJ might been called
the Central Inn & Conference Center during some point
of its existance.
By
2007 New Britain had become a Blackstone
branded LaQuinta and its Restaurant a Famous
Dave's. |

Left:
No its not supposed to be a photo of a port-a-pottie! Hidden
behind the excess of stucco and mansards, a bit of the Restaurant's
original roofline complete with porcelain enamel tiles peeks
out on the side (see lower photos too). |
