Like many free-standing Howard Johnson's Restaurants that opened during the 1950s, Concord Pike was joined by a motel which was immediately adjacent. Originally the motel was known as the El Capitan Motor Hotel and advertised its proximity to the Howard Johnson's!

Shopping facilities were also touted since the motel along with the Howard Johnson's were next to the Fairfax Shopping Center which was an early 1950s strip center.

The motel was independent at first, then joined the Quality Courts referral chain. Later the site became the Brandywine Valley Inn Best Western. However by 2019 it was listed as a Sure Stay Plus Hotel by Best Western.

It's too bad that hospitality proprietors are no longer allowed to feature such awesome signage!

Concord Pike featured the very last extant "Roof Logo" road sign and it was likely installed during the 1970s.

The plans and rendering largely kept the Howard Johnson's intact, but not long after the dining room expansion was completed, the Restaurant abandoned its Orange Roof and then was utterly altered beyond recognition both inside and out.

Completely unrecognizable by the 2010s save for the exterior decorative screen which had been on the Lamplighter Room's exterior, the former HoJo's morphed into the greatly expanded Hollywood Grill.
