Amazingly
the Rum Keg Lounge kept its name! The original sign was no longer
extant, but the "new" one was in the same shape and
brightly lit with neon. Unfortunately
the Restaurant suffered from a number of different occupants.
Its Mansard section was "boxed" off, and the current
tenant was an out-of-place "pricey" eatery featuring
wait staff in penguin-looking tuxedo-like outfits.

Still
using the Howard Johnson name, the circa 1970s Motor Lodge had
once been well cared for, but by 2005 it had gotten a little thread
bare. Obviously there was little money being used for maintenance.
The place was worn and not as clean as it should have been. Moreover
with its high occupancy rates, you would think that the pool could
have been kept open, the grounds clean, and the buildings kept
in tip- top shape. |

Sadly,
the last vintage original Howard Johnson's patio chair at Winter
Haven sat battered and torn awaiting the land fill. |
