The
Daytona-North Motor Lodge and Restaurant opened in 1965, and had
the most prime spot! Located in the northwestern quadrant of the
I-95 and U.S. 1 interchange, motorists couldn't miss it as they
headed south. Even in 2000 it was still a fantastic location, but
the property had undergone a radical transformation for the worse--its
glory years under the Orange Roof had ended. |
Seen
in 2000, the Restaurant was unoccupied save for piles of old Motor
Lodge files and furniture. A sign to the left of the door indicated
that in case of an emergency that Host Marriott should be contacted.
That sign is an important clue, for it indicates that the Restaurant
had been a Howard Johnson Corporate location and was taken over
by Marriott after it bought HJ in 1985 -- perhaps it operated
for a time as a Big Boy? |
