By 2003,
the place had seen a few minor changes--foliage had been trimmed,
the Gate Lodge painted, and the covered walkway between the
Restaurant and Gate Lodge had been removed. These were encouraging
signs that there was perhaps still some life left in the former
Motor Lodge. |

Last
owned by Okeechobee Hotel Holdings LLC, all hope was dashed
that the former HoJo's would be an upstanding hospitality
facility again, for the site's land had become far to valuable
to justify continuing operations as a motel, and its owner
cashed in. A large sign indicated that the site would be redeveloped
as a GIANT Harley Davidson Store & Entertainment complex.

When
Phil made his pass in October of 2003, an employee at the
former Motor Lodge told him that no part of the place was
to be demolished and that the Restaurant was to be remodeled
and reopened as a new eatery. |

Unfortunately
the employee was incorrect about the demolition, but at least
Phil made a careful effort to document the Gate Lodge before
it was gone forever. |
