When Phil Edwards visit Fort Walton Beach in 2003, it had been divided into two motels. The Gate Lodge and the guest building behind it became a Roadway Inn, while the other two interior corridor guest buildings were gutted and became the Quality Inn Bayside.

Unfortunately only the ends of the guest buildings that became the Quality Inn retained recognizability. Alas the rooms were extended eliminating balconies and patios rendering the place a rather hideous sight!

No longer wearing the Roadway Inn Choice Hotel's moniker, the Gate Lodge and its one mostly unaltered guest building became the Bayside Inn by 2005.

Note that both the Bayside Inn and the Quality Inn share the original Howard Johnson's swimming pool.
