Like
many Motor Lodges, Gainesville-Downtown's site allowed for expansion.
A more modern interior corridor 31 unit was added during the late
1960s or early '70s (pictured above).

Ultra-modernity
for the common man. Circa 1960s Howard Johnson's were high-style!
By
the 1970s, Gainesville-Downtown had received modest updating.
Note the unusual for the time use of an African American family
enjoying HoJo's hospitality.

The
Gainesville-Downtown's Restaurant was a classic 1960s Nims
derivative Its overflow dining area or Lamplighter Room featured
floor to ceiling windows affording diners an expansive view
of the well-tended Motor Lodge grounds and swimming pool area.
Demolished
in the 1980s, a Checkers
double drive through came to occupy its site.
