            Not unlike other former
Howard Johnson's Restaurants, Homestead has changed hands at
least a couple of times. When Bob visited in 2002 the Restaurant
was undergoing its change into Mario's Latin Cafe. By 2004 the
Latin/Cuban influence in South Florida was quite obvious. I ate
both dinner and breakfast at the former Restaurant. Although
dinner for me was just a take-out sandwich, it was interesting
to observe the steady stream of patrons visiting Mario's walk-up
window. All of them ordered in Spanish, and nearly everyone ordered
"Cuban" coffee. The coffee is served in a demitasse
cup and must pack a caffeine punch. I looked but didn't have
            any! |
