Key among the features
that make Homestead worth a look is the Gate Lodge-esque canopy.
Beverly, the owner's sister, indicated that its future is in
doubt. The once Orange roofed canopy obstructs emergency vehicles
from passing through the main entrance. Recently an emergency
call was placed when a woman went into labor, and the emergency
responders were unable to drive their vehicle under the canopy.
The canopy is a trade-mark structure and would be terrible to
lose just because EMS could not be bothered to use the rear entrance!
Back in the day it must
have been quite a sight with its gleaming porcelain enamel Orange
roof tiles (even today it's still a wondrous sight!).
