Last Gate Lodge
The earliest known A-frame Gate Lodges date from 1959. However, the Howard Johnson Company began using the A-frame design in advertising and literature as early as September of 1958 according to U.S. Patent Office records.

Miami Beach's Gate Lodge remained the least altered of the several hundred that were built. It is the last complete extant example of a Howard Johnson's Gate Lodge. The forty-year-old beacon of hospitality will be demolished soon after the July 9, 2006 closing of the hotel.
