In addition to its spacious rooms, the Motor Lodge also offered access to an 18 hole 'professional' golf course as well as its own on site putting green.

Touting "color TV in every room," lodging facilities in the early 1970s often lacked the amenity. Even in the 1980s I can recall staying in off brands that had only black and white sets, but today it hardly seems imaginable that a room would not have wi-fi, much less a color television!

Always highly rated in Howard Johnson's directories of the 1980s and 1990s, the Lodge billed itself as being "In the heart of Naples." The thatched roof seen above was the poolside 'chickee' bar. Its traditional HJ Restaurant closed sometime after 1986, and the Motor Lodge itself closed in about 1999. Reportedly the entire site was razed and redeveloped.
