Probably during the 1990s, the Restaurant was demolished and replaced with the Taco Bell building seen above. Note the original Trapezoid sign base that had been recycled to support the "modern" Howard Johnson sign.

HoJo Again
Purged in the early 1980s, Sarasota-South took on the Budget Host name, and then in 1989 became the unaffiliated Sunshine Motor Lodge. Interestingly the HoJo's was repatriated in 1998.

Glopped with stucco, paint and ridiculous "arch" embellishments, the Motor Lodge had become horribly mutilated by the 2000s. Nonetheless the property retained an amount of familiarity and perhaps even a small amount of its dignity.
