I-95
@ Hwy 204 |
|
By
the mid-1970s, the original Motor
Lodge #000 had become dated and out-of-step as a Howard
Johnson's, so in 1973 the modern mansard Savannah-Gateway
location was opened along the largely completed I-95.
It
and Brunswick
I-95 had the same management and both were built in the
Mansard style.
The
property's Restaurant was rebranded as a Big Boy in the middle
1980s and then later was demolished. A Shoney's came to occupy
its site, but by the 2010s an IHOP came to occupy what had
been the Shoney's. |

Having
been rebranded as a Days Inn, the former Motor Lodge sans its Restaurant
appeared in near mint condition as recently as 2003. |

In
the initial process of being prepped for demolition, the site
still presented itself well. |

The
site's real estate became too valuable for the less than compact
Motor Lodge and it was demolished. A Spring Hill Suites and a
convenience store came to be built on parts of what had been the
Howard Johnson's. |
