By 2008 the property had fallen on hard times. Having lost the Econo Lodge brand and its Benders Restaurant, the site was foreclosed upon by its lender. An auction/sale of the property was ordered, but In poor condition the former Howard Johnson's complex had no takers and became vacant. As 2009 came to end the distressed former HoJo's was listed for sale at a price of $875,000.
