Above: An unfortunate casualty of its brand swapping was the unsightly appearance of its guest building exteriors resulting from modifications over time. Note that the sliders and railings were all removed, but in an odd twist first floor rooms were outfitted with exterior doors.

Below: A ground breaking attraction, Council Bluffs indoor pool was still well maintained and used by the middle 2000s.

Above: A door and window in Phil's first floor room were installed where a slider had once been.

Like the exterior of the guest buildings, the interiors suffered from the many brand changes. Save for the general room layout and size little of the original Howard Johnson's flavor remained by the Middle 2000s.

Above: Covered over, the room's Pamper Panel had become just and electrical outlet.

Below: Note that the second vanity had been ripped out and replaced with a cheap TV stand holding a mini refrigerator, and that the room's entry area had become cluttered and unappealing
