A classic design with clean lines, Bangor's Restaurant and Gate Lodge presented themselves with gleaming Orange Roofs--boldly announcing that the site was a Howard Johnson's. Like many complexes, the Restaurant was Beaconized during the 1970s but the Gate Lodge retained its Spire and Lamplighter Weathervane. Note that the Restaurant's greenhouse extension was added in the 1980s or later, and that the Howard Johnson Restaurant and Lounge signage dates from after 1986.

Incredibly the restaurant's interior retained many of the elements that were common to Howard Johnson's. However Bangor's later greenhouse expansion considerably increased the area in front of the Dairy Bar giving its patrons a greater feeling of space. Oddly the support columns and the Dairy Bar itself were trimmed in a shade of "bordello-burgundy" carpeting. Note the extensive use of circa 1990s FAI era posters behind the dairy bar as well as the vintage 1970s stools and original 1966 striped terrazzo floor.
