Save for the harsh non-original ceiling illumination, Bangor's main dining area retained the atmosphere of a real Howard Johnson's well into the 2000s. Remarkably many circa 1970s Landmark Supply furnishings remained in use.

In its Final Days ... Sadly the well-preserved and VERY last Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex fell into the wrong hands. Perhaps its owner Asghar Kahn of Pakistani heritage understood the American Dream, but he was completely and utterly clueless when it came to Howard Johnson's which ironically is the very symbol of the American Dream. By the middle 2000s, Bangor was rendered gray, drab, uninspired and completely un-HoJo-like even as it kept its name.

And worse, the site's future is in doubt as the property has been listed for sale with the suggestion that the Restaurant could easily be demolished to make way for a "chain" operation. Thus the last Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex will likely sooner rather than later suffer the same fate as all of the others.
