Millington, Maryland
 --10601 Howard Johnson Rd. (U.S. 301)

The long-time Landmark Restaurant was a fixture in Millington from about 1959 until 2005. Even though the area is largely rural, the Restaurant found long term success.

It's owner, believing in FAI's vision to maintain the chain, undertook an extensive remodeling of the facility in about 1986. While the remodeling effort expanded Millington and enhanced its capacity to serve patrons, it largely left the classic "Nims-type" Restaurant unrecognizable. Nonetheless, even as its Orange roof was removed, the Millington outpost remained a vital piece of Howard Johnson's until the demise of FAI in 2005.

RIGHT: A poster advertising Howard Johnson's Tendersweet Fried Clams was still in use at Millington in 1999. The advertisement dated from 1985 while the Howard Johnson Company was owned by Imperial and featured a re-launch of the Simple Simon and the Pieman motif!

Even thought the Restaurant lasted another 20 years following its remodel, it is remarkable since the site's signature elements were removed. Moreover, the building itself was rendered un-seeable from the highway with an overgrowth of ornamental trees... Note the oversized "OPEN" signs!
