It is likely that this
Mansard Motor Lodge and Restaurant complex was opened in the
Fall of 1973 to replace Springfield's cut off and aging location
on 333
Columbus Ave. Less a traditional Motor Lodge and more a "highway-hotel,"
the high-rise guest building departed from Howard Johnson's normal
balcony style. Rather than screen mesh open railings the balconies
featured solid barriers.
By 2004 the location
had been converted into a Quality Inn. Up until recently the
Guest rooms had remained much as they were from the Motor Lodge's
HJ days. Unfortunately the Landmark Supply furnishings had been
removed and were behind one of the buildings piled up in stacks
to be discarded.
