Failure by Howard Johnson's
management to properly address the company's problems led to
desperate measures by 1983. A new division was created called
The Creative Concepts Group. Led by Doris Etelson, the twelve-member
team consisted of specialists in operations, design, menu planning,
graphic arts, and architecture. Westfield was converted in June
of 1983. They boasted that it took only three weeks to change
over the Restaurant. Inspired by the Children's Marching Song--Nick,
Nack, Paddy Wack, the whole idea proved ridiculous and a waste
of Howard Johnson's precious capital. |
