The
Speedee McDonald's
10207 Lakewood Blvd, Downey,
California
|
|
The Speedee sign at Downey
with its single giant arch is a one-of-a-kind. It hearkens back
to the days of the postwar era when the roadside was filled with
larger that life signs of all shapes and colors vying for motorists
attention--"Hey pull in over here, This is Your Kind of
Place!" |

|
Buildings were signs
too. Everything was carefully designed for maximum attention
grabbing. Architects Meston and Fish wanted the McDonald brothers'
stands to be different from everything else--they succeeded,
and created a cultural icon. |
