Like
several of the other ultra-modern Howard Johnson's Motor Lodges
in New England, the Nashua property had an indoor-all-weather pool
facility which included a loft that at one time had held a beauty
parlor and a real estate office.
For
families or even weary business travelers the prospect of a dip
in a heated pool in the middle of winter served as a welcome respite
from the harsh cold. Moreover the indoor swimming pool and outdoor
patio played host to many children's birthday parties, and as an
added benefit the "loft" served as a game room with ping-pong
and other table games to keep children occupied while their parents
relaxed poolside. With the many amenities the Nashua complex became
both a local landmark and a destination spot for visitors! |

With
only just two guest buildings offering only about 72 rooms, the
Nashua Motor Lodge was not large, but featured the best in HoJo's
accommodations. Even less than a week before it was closed forever,
Nashua's Motor Lodge was still in top shape.
Below:
Rooms were redone in the middle 1980s to then Howard Johnson's
specifications which resulted in the removal of the privacy screens
and the paneling being covered by "grass cloth" wallpaper. |
