Having
had the rest of the world pass it by, the old Howard Johnson's
no longer looked modern, rather it was tired, well-worn, and out-of-date.

Even
as the rest of the Fitfh Avenue Pavilion was being dismantled
and demolished, Scott found the HoJo's open and a fresh coat
of paint livened the fenced off "Howard Johnson Entrance"
sign.
Disturbing
to Howard Johnson's preservationists, the Asbury Park Restaurant
was using its classic original 1963 tables and chairs outside
on the Boardwalk. The furniture was NEVER designed
to be outdoors--much less left outside in the Atlantic Ocean
salt mist. No doubt the 40+ year old fixtures and furnishings
have been ruined.
