What I usually call the
Ranch-type Gate Lodge was described in Architectural Record
as "a point of advertising reflecting the Johnson philosophy
of trying to relate the gate lodge to the restaurant by means
of similar roofs and cupolas on both."
Careful studies were
completed to best devise room and property layout for the Ridgefield
Park site--it is amazing to read about how much time, effort,
and thought went into the planning!
Alas this exceptionally
innovative circa 1957 complex likely no longer exists as its
address and telephone number are registered to a Hampton Inn
(2004).
