Binghamton-North, New York -- 700 Front St

Opened in the spring of 1971, Binghamton-North complemented the area's nearby but older Vestal complex. Built where I-81 turns to the north and U.S. 17 heads west, the facility enjoyed many years of prosperity at its well positioned site.

Still displaying its Howard Johnson street sign, the Motor Lodge had already ceased being a member of the once proud chain. Having suffered years of neglect and layers of stucco its Orange glory days were long passed. The property went unbranded for a period of time and had come to serve the less affluent and workmen on extended stays.

Below: No longer a Howard Johnson by 2002, the property's towering highway sign had been covered up by a blue tarp and "Restaurant" with a banner advertising a $39.95 rate.
