Aviation Rd @ I-87 |
Time doesn't stand still
for very long. The Gate Lodge was demolished and the Restaurant
was converted again. |

The Restaurant now sits
forlornly all alone--with the Gate Lodge and Blacksmith Shop
Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge gone, just the Restaurant and
guest buildings remain (2005). Brian Florence (http://www.deadmalls.com) reported that the
site's owner, Aviation Mall, makes changes (demolishes) things
periodically perhaps to appease the local populace since the
former Motor Lodge/Restaurant has sat vacant for so long under
the mall's ownership. Ironically the Motor Lodge's vintage brochure
advertises Aviation Mall as a reason to stay at the Lodge. Mr.
Florence suggested that perhaps the rest of the site should be
leveled in order to remake the I-87/Aviation Road interchange
to meet current traffic demands--unfortunately I agree with him... |
