With its natural exposed brick and well manicured grounds, the Newburgh Motor Lodge ranked highly for its curb appeal. Attention to details like the brick pattern design seen in the photo at left on the end of a guest building demonstrated the Howard Johnson Company's attention to interesting architectural design elements.

An added bonus to its visual appeal was the continued use of the classic Howard Johnson's railing design for both balconies and stairwells.

Note that employees indicated that the property was scheduled for a remodel which would eliminate the classic railings and other features.

Only the closed swimming pool was uninviting, but at least it was largely hidden from view by foliage.

Note the use of FAI Restaurant era "Howard Johnson" font that was curiously used on the paper sign in the guest laundry area.
