Ever the enthusiastic HoJo's researcher, Jack Thomas eagerly anticipated what he might discover at Spring Valley.

However disappointment loomed as he approached and later wrote that it had "to be the WORST Motor Lodge conversion ever." Moreover he received a most unwelcoming reception--"Mr. Patel" confronted Jack by telling him that "he had no business being there, and that it was private property."

Built during the second wave of Motor Lodge construction, Spring Valley was an open design and ill-suited for cold weather. By the time of its shoddy Days Inn conversion its exterior room entryways had been enclosed and stuccoed.

Above: No doubt the owner's luxury automobiles (and "Mrs. Patel")await to whisk him away to some important Cendant "how-to-squeeze-more- money-for-yourself" out of an old HoJo's conference.

At least the Restaurant managed to maintain some of its good character even if its interior had been completely redone.
