A veritable juggernaut of Howard Johnson's once lined North Carolina's stretch of Interstate 95 from North to South! Motorists were sure not to miss one of the several Howard Johnson's locations along the important route! The Lumberton complex opened during the summer of 1968 as the southernmost HoJo's along the Interstate in the Tar Heel State .

It along with sister locations in Roanoke Rapids, Gold Rock, and Dunn were managed and supervised by the Pearsall Operating Co., Inc. of Rocky Mount during the mid to late 1980s. Attesting to the long life of the Howard Johnson brand, Lumberton's Motor Lodge was still a HoJo's in 2005!
