The Geneva Restaurant
is significant because it was the LAST Howard Johnson's
Restaurant in Ohio. Modified with the Bay Window and removal
of its Dairy Bar in the early 1980s by the Howard Johnson Company,
this was a profitable location. When HoJo's was dissolved in
1985-'86, Marriott kept it open--complete with its Howard Johnson
name. Subsequently Marriott got out of the family restaurant/coffee
shop business, and sold the location along with 16 others in
the early 1990s to Franchise Associates Incorporated. FAI in
its downward spiral soon destroyed the location's business, and
by 1995 it was closed. Thus
was ended Howard Johnson's Restaurants'
over fifty year presence in the state of Ohio. |
