Following
the lead of several East Coast states, in the late 1940s Oklahoma
committed to building a network of limited access toll roads. All
of 86 miles, the first of the state's hodgepodge of pikes opened
to traffic on May 16, 1953. It was the Turner Turnpike, and ran
roughly from Tulsa to Oklahoma City.
The
list below indicates each Service/Travel Plaza (Concession) along
Oklahoma's Turnpikes where a Howard Johnson's once operated. The
year after the name of each turnpike indicates when each was opened
to the motoring public. |
