Most likely opened
in 1961, the Erie Motor Lodge/Restaurant was located on U.S.
19 at I-90. The postcard view above reveals that the Restaurant
featured an exterior covered walkway from the Gate Lodge. Usually
the walkways were integrated into the design and were enclosed--especially
in Northern climates! The view below shows an early version of
the once famous and well thought out guestroom featuring exposed
beams supporting "tectum" roof-ceiling tiles and an
"oriental-esque" privacy screen. |
