Phil Edwards stopped
here in 2003 only to discover that most of the former Restaurant
and Motor Lodge had been demolished. In the Restaurant's place
stood a new building which housed a Quaker Steak & Lube,
but continued to use the Howard Johnson's sign frame. Only two
of the Motor Lodge's guest buildings survived. Phil said that,
"one is a 2-story, heavily altered one with a huge highway-sign
framework on the roof to support tiny 'Motel 6' lettering (obviously
formerly supporting the 'Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge' letters)."
He added that "the second is an ancient single-story building
which appears never to have been changed at all..." |
