Only
lasting a couple of years, the independent owners sold their
still viable and valuable location, and the old Mansard HoJo's
was converted into a Denny's--except that its conversion rendered
it unrecognizable as ever having been a Howard Johnson's.

Saved
from the Scrap Heap of History!
Mark Ihrie plucked the Beacon, and at considerable
expense had it restored to its original "environmental
era" luster. He also saved the Rum Keg
Lounge sign as well as several other artifacts
from the dismantled White Haven Howard Johnson's! |
