Farewell to Thee... In business as a Howard Johnson's Restaurant for nearly thirty years and having survived its ownership by Marriott, the Restaurant was finally liquidated by Franchise Associates Incorporated during 2002. Independent operators took over the eatery and were ridiculously required by FAI to remove its Beacon.

Alerted to the Restaurant's demise Mark Ihrie, HoJo's preservationist extraordinaire, rushed to the rescue. He contacted the new operators of the location and negotiated a deal whereby he was able to acquire the Beacon and other HoJo's artifacts.
