Tastefully remodeled in the middle 1980s with fixtures and furnishings thoughtfully and carefully devised by Howard Johnson's team of designers and architects, the standardized rooms had been updated but continued to imbue a HoJo's feel.

Note that Bob Venditti's room featured its circa 1980s "grass cloth" wall covering and that the second floor room did not have beams in its cathedral ceiling.

A ridiculous edict issued by Wyndham in 2007 forces all locations to install "stylish" curved shower rods, hookless shower curtains, and multifunction shower heads by June 30, 2007. Wyndham International should focus on basics first like its franchisees who have unclean sub-standard properties. Mercer is a good example of how a Howard Johnson should be and left alone to carry on the good name.
