An elaborate-for-its-day
complex, Oakland was overshadow a couple of years later when
the luxurious Chatham Center facility was opened. With its lobby
on the lower level and Restaurant/cocktail lounge on the first
floor, the complex opened in the winter of 1964.
Note the Isley's sign
in the lower left corner of the aerial shot seen above. Isley's
was once the world's largest dairy store chain boasting more
than 400 outlets. Just across form the Howard Johnson's was a
4-acre site that housed Isley's Pittsburgh plant. One of Isley's
legacies lives on--the Klondike Bar!
