The
sprawling complex of guest room buildings remained unmutilated
by stucco or painted brick. Moreover the Motor Lodge's grounds
were clean and well manicured. |

The
only blotch on Newport-Middletown's report card was the one it
earned for its abandoned tennis courts. According to the Motor
Lodge's desk clerk, when owners of the Lodge built their adjacent
Hampton Inn, dirt and debris from construction damaged the courts
and they were never repaired. |
