One of the last to maintain its form, Middletown retains its Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge character with gusto!

A rare treat, the advertising map near the pool still displayed the Orange Roof logo and indicated that the Howard Johnson's Restaurant was still in front of the Lodge operating 24 hours. Unfortunately the Restaurant was demolished and an Applebee's resides on its footprint.

Note the old IHOP logo in the photograph below!

Bob Venditti wrote that Middletown-Newport was "a real class act...Too bad there aren't more like this one left to find."

The natural exposed brick and beamed cathedral ceilings that HoJo's had employed throughout its Motor Lodge design were rich, warm and inviting, providing a sense of soothing calm to the weary traveler.

Note below Mr. Venditti's night time view of the Orange Glowing Gate Lodge from his second floor balcony!
