Even as the restaurant was demolished in the 1980s, the Motor Lodge carried on under other names. Finally in its final life as a motel it was known as the Regency Inn. As the Regency, its fortunes waned, and the site became a haven of vice. Cited as a public nuisance, the former Motor Lodge was closed for good in 2005. After its closure the site remained vacant as town officials, property owners, and other parties wrangled over who would pay for its removal. During August of 2007, Tom Elmore who fondly recalled the HoJo's, observed that a fence had been erected around the property--usually the first sign that demolition is eminent..

Note: The property was not marked off-limits when I took my photo-documentation tour of it in July of 2006. Nonetheless it was a creepy experience as imagined danger seemed to lurk around every corner!
